How to Identify Yours

Do you find it hard to reach your weight goals no matter how hard you work out in the gym or how much you change your diet? You may not understand your body type and its effect on how you gain or lose weight. To avoid metabolic confusion and get real results, it is important to understand what body type you have to lose weight.

Body Types and Weight Loss

The three overarching body types are; ectomorphs, endomorphs, and mesomorphs.

Ectomorphs body type

Ectomorphs are generally leaner and find it hard to add weight, they also find it difficult to bulk up in the gym. Physical trainers generally refer to them as “hard gainers” and no matter how much they eat, gaining muscle can be a long-drawn-out process.

In addition to their leaner frame, they have longer limbs and small muscle bellies. If you’re an ectomorph, and you want to add more muscle or weight, you will need to increase your calorie intake. If you eat three meals a day, you might want to add this to about 5 or 6 making sure that these are healthy, high in protein meals.

Endomorphs body type

Endomorphs typically have higher levels of body fat and have a difficult time losing weight and they also have a wider physique when compared to ectomorphs and mesomorphs. If you have wider hips, shorter limbs, and a thicker ribcage, you most likely are an endomorph.

This body type typically struggles to lose weight and they find it difficult to gain muscle without additional fat which can be quite frustrating. If you have this body type, completely avoid crash diets. Incorporate foods that are less fatty and higher in protein to help you lose fat and gain muscle instead.

Mesomorphs body type

Mesomorphs are perhaps the luckiest genetically speaking. Their body type includes the best of both worlds with their narrow waist, wider shoulders, long limbs, smaller joints, and stringy muscle bellies. They are naturally fit and muscular but this does not mean they don’t need to keep fit and watch their diet.

If you’re a mesomorph you might think that you can eat anything without consequences to your body but this is the farthest from the truth. You will still gain weight, however, you might now struggle too much to lose the extra weight.

Heart disease, high blood pressure, and other lifestyle diseases do not discriminate based on body type therefore, it is still important that you maintain a healthy diet and an active lifestyle.
