LED face masks are the next trend taking the beauty world by storm. If you’re an avid social media user then you’ve most likely seen this trend going around.

LED light therapy is not necessarily a new treatment, however, it has gained popularity in the past few months. Mostly because it does exactly what it claims to do.

How does LED Light Therapy work?

Believe it or not, LED light therapy is actually a NASA invention!????

It was designed to heal wounds in space and was used by Navy Seals in the 1990s.

Soon after aestheticians realized its benefits and began using it in their treatments.

LED Light Therapy is great for all skin tones and all skin types.

The skin is exposed to different wavelengths of light that penetrate the skin to deliver various benefits.

There are two main types of LED Light Therapy: Red Light Therapy and Blue Light Therapy.

What are the benefits of LED Light Therapy for your skin?

Red Light Therapy is skin-safe and is known to reduce inflammation.

It also stimulates collagen and elastin production, giving users a more youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging.

While it is mainly known for this benefit, other forms of LED light therapy like Blue LED light therapy is known to eliminate acne-causing bacteria and works wonders for people with acne-prone skin.

Blue LED light therapy also decreases the androgenic hormones found in the sebaceous glands,  reducing oil and sebum production. Excess oil and sebum production is known to cause acne breakouts.

LED light therapy does not use ultraviolet rays meaning it is extremely safe to use and works well with people with different complexions.

A big factor that makes this treatment so popular is that there is no downtime, pain or discomfort. ????

How should you prep your skin before an at-home LED light therapy?

If you plan on getting an LED light therapy treatment in the morning, it is advisable to use sunscreen.

Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid serums can also be used pre-treatment.

Do they work?

At-home LED light face masks do work. However, you will not see the benefits of this treatment immediately.

It will take consistent use over a period of weeks and months before you can fully see the benefits.

Luckily, they are quite easy to use and only 10 minutes is enough for each mask.

While at-home masks are great, if you are looking for visible and quicker results, visit a clinic that offers stronger LED treatments.
